You Are Not Alone

Court has finished

Support should not suddenly stop when court finishes. Whatever the outcome, this can be one of the hardest times — and you deserve care now, too.

Looking after your wellbeing

  • Exhaustion, relief, anger, emptiness or grief can all appear — sometimes all at once.
  • Be as gentle with yourself as you would be with a friend.
  • Rest is not wasted time. Your body and mind have been through a lot.

Difficult emotions

  • If the outcome wasn't what you hoped, it does not mean you weren't believed or that you didn't matter.
  • Feelings may surface weeks or months later. That's normal, and support is still here.
  • Talking with someone who understands can help carry some of the weight.

Rebuilding routine and confidence

  • Start small: one thing each day that is just for you.
  • Reconnect slowly with people and places that feel safe.
  • Notice what you've come through. That strength is yours.

Understanding what may happen next

  • You may hear about sentencing, appeals or the Victim Contact Scheme.
  • You can ask your police contact or ISVA to explain anything that's unclear.
  • You can choose how much you want to know, and when.

We're here for life after court, not just the process. Reach out whenever you need to.
